If your horse gets scared, aim her toward the woods, not the street screamed my step sister. Yes this sounds insane but before we found out what we didn't know, we thought it was normal. Until about 4 years ago I had no clue about horses. I thought it was so simple; you brush, throw the saddle on, ride and take the saddle off. This was an everyday routine! I really don't know why I thought my horse actually liked me, but I did. After years of this we finally got a clue. I was 12 when we started to get a clue and thank God we did because if we had waited any longer I probably would have been dead.
I started studying Natural Horsemanship and horse Psychology. I started to understand that the foundation is the most important ingredient to success with horses. Whether you ride English or Western, show or just trail ride it can help you. It's about understanding the horse, developing a relationship and becoming the chosen leader. Once this is accomplished you have a willing and happy horse that WANTS to do anything for you whether that run barrel patterns, show in western pleasure or just be your friend.
Currently I have a 3 year old Tennessee Walker that I raised from a baby who now I ride bareback and bridle less. We do demos together and shock people all over at how willing she is and how truly happy she is to do things, because she's having as much fun as I am. I am currently progressing with an 8 year old rescue horse as well. As a career I want to specialize in young horses and problem horses. Wouldn't it be nice to purchase a foal who is already doing flying lead changes and everything imaginable on the ground! My interest in problem horses is that most of the time the horse is the ultimate prey animal and just needs a human who can act more like a horse! As funny as that sounds it's the truth. Most problem horses just need someone who understands horses well enough, most of the time they are yelling out why they act the way they do it's just that we don't know how to understand it. That's where I come in. Now I want to help people achieve what I have with my horses. So everyone can help their horses.
I am currently studying Parelli Natural Horsemanship. I am a level three student and have worked with all types of horses and have encountered all kinds of problems. I want to major in young horses once I attend the Parelli university. I have two horses of my own, one that I have raised since she was born, a Tennessee Walker (which is in many of the pictures) named Majestic.
She is now three years old and is the most perfect horse out there with and incredible play drive. Majestic and I, along with my step sister and her horse were invited to participate in a seminar help by Parelli Natural Horsemanship, which is where we are in many of the pictures. My other is an 8 year old Tennessee Walker named Fly Boy which I recently adopted from a rescue program. He was surrender because he was "not rideable", to spooky and the owner said no one could do anything with him. After 2 weeks I had developed his ground work and was riding him on trails and in an arena with other horses. I was also standing up on his back. I just want to help people have a relationship with their horse and realize how much more you can get done and how much more fun and safe it is for you and the horse.
